Mod Ideas/Possessed
Description
This mod is an unusual take on a standard deathmatch. Players spawn as ghosts and must zoom around the level attempting to find a body to inhabit. Once in a body, the fragging can begin. The player that stays within a body for the longest amount of time wins the game.
While in "ghost mode" a player will continually lose points at the rate of 1 point per half second. In ghost mode players cannot collect objects although they can trigger doors and switches and travel through teleporters. Upon collision with a body a player in ghost mode will enter the body and be able to play normally. Ghost mode does not allow players to walk through walls and the like – the level must be traversed normally. Ghosts move 25% faster than normal players.
While inhabiting a body players interact with the objects and levels as they would normally. If a player is killed they immediately become a ghost. If the body was not gibbed then it simply lies on the floor awaiting a new inhabitant. If it was gibbed then a new body is spawned somewhere around the level. Players cannot enter the body they last inhabited.
Bodies are initially spawned randomly around the level. There are always the same number of bodies available as there are players.
Interested Scripters
If you are interested in developing this mod for UT2003 then add your name to the list. Once you start development you should indicate that below (and hopefully include a link to a journal page). Before you start development you should also check this section to see if anyone else has started.
AlphaOne I'm interested in this modification. Maybe some players should be allowed to overtake bodies of weaker owners - based on frags.
Discussion
EntropicLqd: A rather odd idea inspired by the PlayerController class and the Scooby Doo movie that my eldest inflicted upon me last night.
Tarquin: Cool idea, ent. watch bad films more often!
ZxAnPhOrIaN: Cool thing!
Vajuras: I actually thought of a similar concept back in the day. It's a good idea but how bout adding some complexity like allowing the ghost to jump into a stronger body when they come across one. And you could give it a neat background.
Jeeptrash: Hey, neat; I like it too. Here's a suggestion: base the game type around the possesion/ghost thing but allow different variations... I like the ones above but I alos like the idea of having a set number of corpses, say 3x the players, that when gibbed are gone forever... musical ghost blood chairs....
Dark Pulse: This is a very, very interesting idea, and it's refreshingly original to boot. I look foward to playing it someday
Plouj: I've just played SlaveMaster and that game confused the heck out of me. The ever switching loyalty is not my type of fun. So, even though I enjoyed the basic idea of SlaveMaster, I think Possessed has more potential.
